By the end of the day, there were usually dozens of men in the pile. 

That would be fun to be part of. Or to crawl over the pile as the only one alive. Thank you for this excellent creation.

Yeah, that pile would be fun. My preference would be to be tossed on the top of the heap, face up. Then, when they toss the next guy on there he lands so that either his crotch or his armpit are in my face. That  would definitely result in a boner and shooting my load.
